2011 Show Rules
GENERAL INFORMATION
- All entries, in all classes, must consist of 50% or more alpaca fiber.
- All Fiber Arts items and skeins must be one-of-a kind items that have been crafted by the exhibitor.
- Items/skeins must have been completed after November 7, 2010.
- Each item must be accompanied by a written description that includes fiber preparation, fiber content, techniques, pattern designer, yarn used, etc. The description must be placed on a 3”x5” card, and must not contain artist identifying information. The description will be included in the points for judging. (NOTE: Mill Spun Skeins do not include a written description.)
FIBER ARTS COMPETITION
- Each exhibitor may enter 1 item per division/group/category/class.
- Entries must be submitted in the name of the Mill or Farm depending upon category.
SKEIN COMPETITION
- Each exhibitor may enter 2 skeins per group/category/class, as long as they are of different fiber preparations.
- Skeins must be at least 50 yards in length, 1 ½ to 2 yards in circumference, neatly wound, “figure 8” tied in 4 places and placed in a one gallon Ziploc-style plastic bag. Points may be deducted for any skein that is not at least 50 yards in length.
ENTRY JUDGING
- Items will be judged anonymously with points given for creativity, craftsmanship, handle, visual appeal, appropriate use of fiber and technique, effectiveness, final finish, etc.
Ribbons will be awarded for top three entries in each division/category/group/class.
- Classes may be combined if less than 4 entries per class are received.
- The Judge may change the category/class of an item at his/her discretion.

ENTRY COST AND PROCEDURES
- If you mail in your entry, correct return shipping must be provided as described elsewhere.
- Late entries will be accepted thru November 4th at check-in!!!!!
- Entries delivered personally must be checked in on Friday, November 4th, 1:30-5pm. No entries will be accepted after 5 pm on November 4th.
- The competition will be closed to the public during Judging on Saturday, November 6th, 9am-2pm.
- Judge’s comments will be presented from 3pm-4pm on Saturday November 5th.
- Items must be left on display until 12:00pm, Sunday, November 6th. Please pick up entries promptly between 12pm- 2pm. Written authorization is required for pickup by someone other than the Exhibitor.
FIBER ARTS DIVISIONS/CATEGORIES/CLASSES
Fiber Arts Divisions:
- Beginner (Working in the Fiber Art for less than 1 year):
- Junior- Ages 18 and younger.
- Adult- Over age 18.
- Intermediate (Working in that Fiber Art for more than one year)
- Advanced (Working in that Fiber Art for more than 1 year and has received a score of 90 or greater within a given class).
Fiber Arts Categories:
- All handwork. (100% handspun yarns with 100% handmade construction and/or 100% hand-felted.)
- Partial or non-handwork. (Use of commercially spun yarn, and/or knitting-machine construction, or less than 100% hand felted.)
Fiber Arts Groups:
- Woven
- Felt
- Knit
- Crochet
- Lace
Fiber Arts Classes:
- Accessories—any technique (gloves, scarves, socks and other small wearables such as jewelry)
- Shawls—any technique
- Hats—any technique
- Garments—sweaters and vests
- Hearth & Home—any technique (art and toys: pictures, wall hangings, statues; home furnishings: rugs, pillows, afghans, blankets, etc.)
HAND-SPUN SKEIN GROUPS/CATEGORIES/CLASSES
Hand-spun Skein Groups:
- Beginner Spinner (spinning less than 1 year).
- Junior- Ages 18 and Younger.
- Adult- Over age 18.
- Intermediate Spinner (Spinning for more than 1 year).
- Advanced Spinner (Spinning for more than 1 year and has received a score of 90 or greater within a given class).
Hand-spun Skein Categories:
- Yarn spun from commercially prepared fiber (roving, bats, tops, etc.).
- Yarn spun from fiber hand prepared by the spinner.
Hand-spun Skein Classes:
- Classic Yarn—Singles— 100% Huacaya.
- Classic Yarn—Singles— 100% Suri.
- Classic Yarn—2 or more ply— 100% Huacaya.
- Classic Yarn—2 or more ply— 100% Suri.
- Classic Yarn—2 or more ply— Blends (at least 50% alpaca).
- Hand Spindle—Any ply (at least 50% alpaca).
- Novelty Yarn—To qualify as Novelty, the yarn must be spun using a defined technique (Nap, Core, Spiral, Knot, Slub, Boucles, Beaded, etc.), be well constructed, and comprised of at least 50% alpaca.
MILL-SPUN SKEIN CATEGORIES/CLASSES
Mill-spun Skein Categories:
- Skeins entered by Mill demonstrating their best work.
- Skeins entered by the individual farm showing the quality of yarn from their alpaca's fiber.
Mill-spun Skein Classes:
- Finer Yarns—Knitting superfine/fine yarn (Sock, Fingering, Baby, Sport); Weaving 1200 yards/lb or greater.
- Light/Medium Yarns—Knitting (DK, Light Worsted, Worsted, Afghan, Aran); Weaving 850 yards/lb-1199 yards/lb.
- Bulky Yarns—Knitting bulky/super bulky (Chunky, Craft, Rug, Bulky); Weaving less then 850 yards/lb.
- Novelty Yarns—Boucles, Thick & Thin, Beaded, etc.
