Fleece Show - Fleece check-in is on Thursday, Jan. 4th, 12-5pm. Bring fleece to the National Western Complex (enter Gate 7) and into Stadium Hall (thru west doors). If you wish to sign up to be considered for the Silent Auction of Handspinning Fleeces & Fiber, you may do so at this time. Friday, Jan. 5th, fleece judging will occur between 8am-5pm. The fleece show area will be closed at this time.
Don't forget to download your fleece tag. Bring your completed fleece tag & a copy of the animal's ARI to check in.
The fleece show nearly doubled in size since final call!! Thanks to all for participating! It's going to be a great show with lots of payouts & championships available.
The fleece show is in need of a few more volunteers on Thursday morning to assist with set-up, Thursday afternoon for check-in, & Friday for short shifts during judging. Halter/Performance Shows - Alpacas check-in at National Western beginning at 10 am on Friday, Jan. 5th and must be in place by 6 pm. Enter through Gate 7. Signage at I-70 & the Brighton Boulevard exit will direct you to Gate 7.
At Gate 7, you will pick up your National Western Packet, which includes your show numbers, a parking pass & badge(s). You can purchase extra badges here if needed. You will also show your Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection (CVI) with your negative BVD and a treatment for scabies indicated. There will probably be a wait so please be patient!
You will then be directed by National Western personnel to the west side of Stadium Hall where you will back-in your truck and trailer and unload the alpacas & your gear. There is not a lot of parking room so you will need to unload as soon as you can. National Western Volunteers with carts will help you unload.
ABR volunteers will perform a quick health check (noses and tails). Please ensure that the alpacas are checked before you bring them in and stall them. PLEASE DO NOT BRING SICK ALPACAS TO NWSS. They will be sent home! After you quickly unload, you will need to park your truck and trailer before setting up your display stalls. Parking, other than trailers, is free. Each packet will receive one parking pass for Lot C (livestock parking). Trailer parking is located at Coors Field. Whole show and per day rates are available.
There will be a mini-Show Central set up in the stadium hall alpaca area. Please check-in there to see what stalls have been assigned and where they are located.
The "Meet the Alpacas" will begin at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Jan. 6th. This event is on the NWSS schedule and has been a big hit with the public. You can take your alpacas into the ring and mingle with the public. Expect lots of pictures and lots of "petting". It gives us an excellent chance to show-off our alpacas. Bring plenty of business cards to hand out!!
The halter show judges meeting will be held in the arena and start at approximately 2:45 PM on Jan. 6th. The Alpaca halter show will begin at approximately 3:00 PM. We anticipate the show lasting until at least 7:00 PM or later.
SPECIAL ATTENTION - though the halter show added 20 entries since final call & it also will prove to be a great show, there are a few needs remaining to make it even better:
1 or more 2 yr/mature white Huacaya female
1 or more 2 yr/mature grey or multi Suri female
any/all # of yearling & 2yr/mature Suri white females
If you can get any of these on a CVI (including treatment for scabies) by Wednesday evening, we can get them added to the show. Please contact Halter Show Coordinator Kim Kastner, email@example.com, with additions.
The Performance show will begin at approximately 2:00 PM on Sunday, Jan. 7th. The performance show judge's meeting will begin at 1:45 PM in the arena. The arena will need to be swept and then the obstacles need to be set-up. If you can, please come to the arena around 1:00 PM to help set-up the obstacles.
Release slips will be available beginning at 5:30 PM on Sunday evening.You must have a release slip from the Alpaca Show Superintendent to be able to take alpacas out of the NW Complex. National Western expects us to be there until 5:30 PM. No early departures unless emergencies or inclement weather. Thanks for your support.
